It’s the time of the season again – transfer deadline day for January 2012 is finally upon us. From early in the morning until late in the evening, managers will be hustling and bustling to make last minute deals to strengthen their squads. Let’s have a look at the latest news and deals so far:
Prolific Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes is now 1/2 odds on to join EPL side Norwich City. The striker has been in sensational goal scoring form this season for both his club and his country at Under-21 level which has led to him being linked with both SPL clubs Rangers and Celtic as well as host of EPL clubs. The striker is now odds on to head to Norwich City and would be a great boost for the high flying EPL side.
A lot of the talk is inevitably going to be around the highly controversial Carlos Tevez who has been frozen out of the Man City set up since he refused to come off the bench in a Champions League tie with Bayern Munich. The striker is now incredibly 4/1 to join Mark Hughes at QPR, however AC Milan remain the front runners at 15/8. Many journalists however are pointing out that it will be difficult for a deal Tevez to be done before close of business late tonight with Man City remaining stubborn over their £25m minimum asking price.
Everton have agreed a fee with SPL side Rangers to sign their start striker Nikica Jelavic. The fee is believed to be around the £8m pound mark, after Championship side West Ham had a £7m offer for the striker turned down last week. Cash strapped Everton have been able to afford the deal after selling Diniyar Bilyaletdinov for £5m. There have also been rumours amongst journalists that Rangers were still in debt to Everton by around £1.5m over the sale of Michael Ball from Everton to Rangers. There is further bad news for the Scottish club in that Rapid Vienna are said to be entitled to a 25% sell on fee.
In terms of deals that are completed or looking to be a sure thing: Sunderland are set to sign Wayne Bridge on loan from Manchester City. West Ham are said to be in talks with want away Manchester Utd youngster Ravel Morrison and West Brom have signed Liam Ridgwell for £2m.
For news a bit more out left-field: rumours of Carlos Tevez and Andy Caroll swap deal are still doing the rounds in certain circles. There is also a bit of noise suggesting that Hugo Rodellega could play for Wigan against Spurs tonight and complete a move to White Hart Lane after the game.
