Paul Scholes has today announced that he will come out of retirement in order to help Manchester Utd’s midfield crisis. The Manchester Utd legend retired last summer after an illustrious career and has since been helping out as part of the back room staff at Manchester Utd.
Scholes has said that: “I’m delighted the manager feels I can still make a contribution to the team.”
The shock announcement comes after Manchester Urd have desperately struggled in the centre of midfield after injuries to key players like Anderson, Tom Cleverly and the long-term absence of Darren Fletcher. There has also been a lot of pressure on Sir Alex Ferguson to buy a creative player to replace Paul Scholes, both in the summer transfer window and certainly in the Janury transfer window after Man Utd have suffered several shock defeats this season.
Paul Scholes went on to say: “I’ve been pretty clear since I stopped playing that I miss it.
“I’m looking forward to playing my part in trying to bring more success to this great club.”
There will certainly be question marks over whether the 37 year old will still be fit enough to play at the top level although his qualities remained there for all to see up until the very end of his career.
The United manager said: “It’s fantastic that Paul has made this decision. It’s always sad to see great players end their careers, but especially so when they do it early.
“But he has kept himself in great shape and I always felt that he had another season in him. It’s terrific to have him back.”
This story will come as music to the ears for Manchester Utd fans. However, there may be some concern that this will prevent Manchester Utd from going out and getting a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes in this months January transfer window.
